The "Preventive oncology and the implementation of effective anti-tumor technologies" Subproject is implemented in Lviv oblast which aims to improve health of the female population of Lviv oblast in combating malignant tumors. This and many other issues were discussed today at the press conference.
The issue of early diagnosis and prevention of cancer among women in Ukraine is very pressing. Unfortunately, for many women cancer is detected at later stages, when the disease is in its advanced stage, and as a result the effectiveness of treatment and recovery decreases.
Nowadays the mortality rate associated with cancer is the second ranked after cardiovascular diseases. Unfortunately, Ukrainian women rarely undergo examination. However, the disease may be prevented and cured if a person passes regular examinations and undergoes treatment in a timely manner.
Tthe funding for the project implementation in Ukraine is allocated by the World Bank. The overall funding across Ukraine is more than USD 214 mln. It is envisaged that over USD 10 mln. are to be allocated for the Lviv oblast. The World Bank's Project in Ukraine is designed for 5 years; specifically in Lviv oblast - for two years (2015-2017).
The Subproject Management Coordinator, Ms. Khrystyna Pak, highlited that cancer is curable, and women have to often remind themselves about that.
"If we, as mothers, as wives, and as daughters, want to maintain our function, then we have to take care of ourselves. Our main message for women is that they should come for a check-up, think about their health, and take care of it. Perhaps there are no people among us who do not have any acquaintances for whom funds for treatment had not been gathered. But if to undergo regular examinations in a timely manner, one may avoid this all. 95% of those who come to a health care facility, are curable due to efforts of doctors. Women may get a mammogram and an ultrasound examination at a screening centre, where the state of health may be checked in more details, however the initial visit to a gynecologist is the basis,"- said Ms. Chrystyna Pak.
