Every five years the largest and the most scientifically intensive event within the Cancer Society of Ukraine is held in Ukraine by the National Institute of Cancer and the Ukrainian scientific and medical Oncology Society under the support of the Ministry of Health Care of Ukraine and the National Academy of medical sciences of Ukraine.

This year’s congress will be held in Kyiv in the conference hall of the National Sports Complex “Olimpiyskyi” on 26-28th of May.

During the conference, the prominent oncologists of Ukraine and the world will take floor introducing their lectures and speeches.

Among the main topics of the conference are “The obstacles regarding the teaching of oncology in scholarly facilities”, “Breast cancer: urgent approaches to the diagnostics and chemotherapy”, “Experimental oncology”, “Achievements in diagnostics and treatment of oncological diseases” etc.

The representatives of the oncology service in the Lviv oblast traditionally are the participants of the congress and active speakers: the professors at Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical university and practicing physicians at Lviv state oblast-level cancer treatment and diagnostics centre”.

From the perspective of the oblast-level “Preventive oncology and the implementation of effective anti-turmour technologies in Lviv oblast” Subproject of the Ministry of Health Care of Ukraine and the World Bank’s joint “Serving People, Improving Health” Project, the most effective topics of the conference are the introduction of breast cancer and cervical cancer screening on the general national level, specifically the introduction of the national screening system (the first day – on May 26, Module “Organization of cancer combatting: issue of early diagnostics and screening; family medicine, rehabilitation and the quality of life of cancer patients”.).

Reference: In the framework of cooperation with the World Bank’s “Preventive oncology and the implementation of effective anti-tumour technologies” in Lviv oblast, the following is introduced:

-          Population-based cervical cancer screening for the target group of women aged 18-65 based on cytological smears;

-          Mammography-based screening for the target group of women aged 45-65 based on mammography with an innovative approach.

It is envisaged that the registry of the female population of the target group be established and the first screening examination of women be assigned to the obstetrician and gynaecological service (establishment of a computerized database “Electronic registry of the female population”) with subsequent referral of the determined age category of women for mammography in multi-district screening centres.

The objective of screening is the maximum detection of the possible number of State I breast cancer cases, and cervical pathology at dysplasia stage and 0 cancer stage.

The medical service of a particular territorialoblast should coordinate efforts to maximize cooperationbetween: a paramedic, family doctor, obstetrician-gynecologist and oncologist towards personalized account of women of the target group (qualitative introduction of theelectronic registry of women aged 18-65 years to identify and monitor unexamined women to their involvement in screening),stratification of the contingent of women depending on their risk factors for cancer to better screeningmultiplicity, timely monitoring of theinvolvement inspecial treatment of the identified patients and appropriate dispenser follow-up of thetreatedpatients.

Introduction of the modern IT monitoring tools, communication and audit to comply with good practice in cancer screening served asa qualitative leap in the results of the detection and treatment of cancer in developed countries, allowing even now to applylow-traumaticcancer treatmentprocedures(cervical conizationwith precancerous lesions and trachelectomyatearly stages of cancer, resection / lumpectomy or other oncoplacticapproaches and reconstruction after breast cancer), which improves the aesthetic and oncological results.

The results of cervical cancer and breast cancer treartment in early stages(cancerinsitu and stage I) maximally approach the curement ofthe disease, therefore all the doctors involved in screening should make every effort to best perform the procedures and comply with the rules of thisnoble cause that savesreal women's lives.
