More than a thousand family physicians from around Rivne region are to undergo trainings in emergency management of myocardial infarction in patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases. This activity is in the action plan of the World Bank Project Serving People, Improving Health in Rivne region. This year, more than 250 doctors successfully completed such a training.

According to experts, life and health of persons with cardiovascular diseases often depend on the promptness and correctness of the first aid. To implement the World Bank project in Rivne region aimed at improvement of cardiovascular diseases treatment and prevention, the staff of the regional Health Department and the Sub-project Support Consultancy Unit initiated a series of modern trainings to improve family physicians’ skills in preventing and treating these diseases, as well as providing primary care in case of acute conditions.

“The country is currently implementing a health care reform with a main stress on family physicians. They are in direct contact with patients. So, patients’ lives will often depend on these doctors’ professionalism. In this regard, we planned a series of special trainings for family physicians to improve their skills, particularly in terms of first aid to patients with cardiovascular diseases", emphasized Yurii Osipchuk. Head of the regional Health Department.

For his part, Serhii Rybachok, Management Consultant of the World Bank Sub-project Support Consultancy Unit, said that the trainings enable the family physicians to take both theoretical courses and acquire practical skills in first aid using modern methods.

“Overall, the Project covers 55 two-day trainings and 8 medical conferences. Our instructors are doing their utmost to make these trainings useful for the physicians. To do this, each of them are provided with theoretical training, training in groups and practical exercises. During all such activities, the instructors try to share state-of-the-art knowledge and give recommendations based on the best first aid practices and personal experience”, said Serhii Rybachok.

Family physicians that have undergone the trainings recognize their benefits and indispensability. After all, they say, knowledge and skills obtained here are more practical and significantly increase their level of professionalism.

“The training was very interesting. As a young professional, I learned much new about the approaches to treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. It is important that besides theory we have many real-world examples to learn from and, obviously, to face in professional activity", said Serhii Odarchuk, doctor of Sarny Primary Health Care Center.

Myroslava Khmara, a family physician from village Verba (Dubno district), agrees with her colleague.

“The training forms only positive impression. Because if you are aware today, you are alive tomorrow. I am convinced that knowledge obtained here will improve our qualification by at least 50%. This means that we can help 50% more patients”, said Myroslava.
