On October 4, 2017, 23 health care institutions in the Lviv oblast, in particular central district hospitals in the oblast and antenatal clinics in Lviv received new advanced colposcopes. The equipment was purchased in the framework of the "Combatting cancer in the Lviv oblast for 2017-2020" Program using the funds from the oblast budget.
Colposcopy is a modern diagnostic method that is widely used in gynaecological examinations for the prevention and early detection of cervical cancer using a colposcope. Colposcopy is performed under ordinary gynaecological examination; it does not require any special preparation and anaesthesia; it lasts about 15 minutes, and does not usually cause pain, and is well tolerated by patients.
Digital colposcopy will make it possible to process images on a computer, which in turn will give high accuracy of diagnostics. The received digital colposcopes are manufactured by the "Scaner" company. This is the company that has been operating in Ukraine since 1990 and produces devices using quality materials and components of the European production, constantly introducing innovative ideas.
"This is the first time in many years, when equipment for the diagnosis of cancer in women was purchased at the expense of the regional budget. Our primary task is to diagnose precancerous conditions. Now our women will be able to undergo qualitative diagnosis. Detection of pathology at the preclinical stage will greatly facilitate treatment and will provide more chances for recovery", - stated the Head of the Health care Department, Iryna Mykychak.
Strengthening the material and technical base of the health care facilities in the oblast expands the capacity of the cervical cancer screening program, which is being implemented as part of the "Preventive oncology and the implementation of effective anti-tumor technologies in Lviv oblast" Subproject.
