On October 9, 2017, the "Cervical and breast cancer prevention in women Days" campaign started in the Lviv oblast. The Head of the Oblast State Administration, Oleh Syniutka, the Head of the Health care Department, Iryna Mykychak, Head Physician in the Lviv Cancer Treatment and Diagnostics Centre, Ihor Kovalchuk, Head Physician in the Western Ukrainian Specialized Children's Medical Centre, Andriy Siniuta, the World Bank's expert, Olena Doroshenko, and the World Bank's "Preventive oncology and the implementation of effective anti-tumour technologies in Lviv oblast" Subproject consultant, Khrystyna Pak, as well as the representatives of mass media examined the X-ray, mammography, ultrasound, and MRI rooms, as well as the department of radionuclide therapy.
To improve the diagnosis of oncological diseases, free examination using the CT scanner, SPECT/CT system, fluoroscopy system, and X-ray system, as well as advanced mammography devices, in particular, 3D tomosynthesis, and ultrasound devices (by Siemens) with the three-dimensional breast imaging feature, and the MRI scanner (by GeneralElectric) is now available in the regional Cancer Treatment and Diagnostics Centre.
After examining equipment, briefing took place.

"Today we see the results of the joint work of the World Bank, the Ministry of Health, and that of the Oblast State Administration. Due to such cooperation, the Cancer Treatment Centre received modern equipment worth more than 5 mln. USD. The cost associated with the entire project in the oblast is 10 mln. USD. The equipment is of high quality and one of the best in Ukraine. The main thing is for the residents to understand that diagnosis and treatment here meet the best European practices", - Oleh Syniutka started the briefing.

"Today we start the cervical and breast cancer prevention days. It is now difficult to find any oblast that would be as much equipped with the means for early and timely diagnosis as ours. Thanks to the World Bank and the Oblast State Administration, due to co-financing, we were able to purchase equipment and kits for the early detection of cervical cancer for both the Cancer Treatment and Diagnostics Centre, and for the district facilities", - stated Iryna Mykychak.

According to Ihor Kovalchuk, the Lviv Cancer Treatment and Diagnostics Centre is one of the strongest cancer treatment centres in Ukraine, and none of the cancer treatment facilities has such equipment. Holding the campaigns is extremely important, as during the campaigns, usually over 52 thousand women undergo examination.

"Lviv oblast cares about the female population and is ready to invest in early diagnosis. Personal motivation of those who are involved in the project should be noted as well. After all, the project requires coordinated work at all levels. Now women have the opportunity to take much better care of themselves. We would like this project to be a pilot model for the introduction of innovations. We also expect even greater effect from the project introduction, because it is implemented very dynamically," - stated Olena Doroshenko.
Andriy Syniuta spoke about the unique opportunity to prevent cervical cancer - vaccination. Girls aged 11-14 may undergo vaccination on the basis of the Western Ukrainian Specialized Children's Medical Centre, as well as on the basis of their place of residence - in the districts. The vaccine is absolutely safe, therefore doctors encourage to not delay the issue of their children's health, and to bring them for the vaccination.
