To share practical experience and scientific developments, the legends of the world cardiosurgery, Maksim Sokolov (chief independent specialist of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with a degree in "Cardiology", M.D., Professor) and Yurii Sokolov (corresponding member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Chairman of the Board of interventional cardiologists of Ukraine, M.D., Professor) visited Vinnytsia. He was the first in Ukraine to conduct coronary angioplasty back in 1993. Similar operations have become possible in Vinnytsia only since 2008, when an angiograph – an apparatus for the diagnosis and treatment of vessels - appeared at the Regional Center.
«What is reperfusion therapy? It is opening of the thromb-blocked coronary artery within a period of up to 12 hours from the appearance of the first signs of myocardial infarction. Thus, according to the «Stent of life» recommendations, conditions should be created in the region for fast delivery of a patient to a specialized medical institution which is capable of accepting patients on a 24/7/365 basis, i.e. 24 hours a day seven days a week all year round" - ProfessorMaksim Sokolovexplains to the participants of the meeting.
The invited guests approvingly appraise the work results of their colleagues from Vinnytsia. Cooperation between the Health Care Departments of the Oblast State Administration and the City Council, scientists of the Vinnytsia National Medical University, doctors of the Vinnytsia Regional Clinical Center for Diagnostics and Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases and representatives of the various medical areas is appropriately established. In 2015 the region started the implementation of the World Bank investment subproject "Serving People, Improving Health". Due to financing under the above subproject, it became possible to conduct a part of coronarographies and stenting free of charge. With the beginning of 2016, cardiovascular surgeons started working on a 24-hour basis, thus increasing the number of interventions. Therefore, the Center took the 3rd place among similar 43 facilities in Ukraine in terms of the number of primary percutaneous operations.
"The average annual rate in Ukraine is 142 angioplasties per 1 million of the population. This year, we are planning to reach 450 surgical interventions per year, i.e. we go ahead of the protocols. Such a dynamics resulted in the reduction of the lethality rate for the first time over the operation of the Heart Center, - says the Chief Physician of Vinnytsia Regional Clinical Center for Diagnostics and Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases, Volodymyr Hladkykh. – The strategic target for the oblast is building a new powerful modern heart center within 4 years. To purchase another angiograph for the operating Center is a tactical target. Now we are negotiating its purchase within the frames of the subproject".
During the conference, its participants also learned the results in the field of prevention of heart diseases, logistics of acute patients and their post-surgery rehabilitation. The main speaker on this subject was David Waters (honorary Professor of Medicine at the University of California).
The scientific event contained several discussion panels. The hosts also prepared tests and simulator exercises for the participants. Everyone who wished to do so, got a chance to perform coronary artery stenting of a human surrogate.
